I went up to Maine for the fourth of July weekend. I saw my mom and aunt. The fireworks were really nice. After the fireworks, I wound up seeing a TON of people I knew from highschool. It was kind of funny not seeing people for 10-13 years and still being able to recognize them. There was only one incident of me incorrectly identifying someone as a classmate of mine back in the days of MDIHS. |

I have officially made it to 1 year of employment at my current job. Considering how unqualified I was for said position at time of hire, I must say that it is easier to jump over hurdles when you shorten the hurdles :) |

First off, I have this picture by my name that was not put there by me. I guess this means I must change my password. The last picture I had up there was the one with the train. I must look into this further. Very few people know I'm on livejournal and I've never accesed LJ from work, thus I am not 100% confident of a security breach occured.
The summer travel season has ended for me and am now up to 26 stadiums visited. God willing, I will be done by the end of next summer.
I've been driving to work one day a week in order to get training at another one of our offices. |

I guess I can be considered somewhat paranoid. I try to think of every type of negative situation that can happen to me in life and think of what I would do in given situation. These skills came in use last Saturday when I was pitching in one of my softball leagues. I took a line drive square in the nuts. Fortunatly, due to my preperation, all that was heard was the loud plastic thud of my cup. Definitly worth the $20 I spent on it.
As of Midnight tonight, the tax rate in Chicago goes up about 1% or so and will become the highest tax rate in the country at over 10%. Speaking of money, I havn't got my economic stimulus check yet. I hope to get my loot soon.
Work is okay. It is hard trying to figure out everything I need to figure out since my boss left. |

At long last, Spring is here. I can't really deal with Feburary and March.
The other engineer at work is gone. So far not a whole lot of calamity has gone on. I kind of like being by myself. |

I have guaranteed myself a couple months of job security. This is due to the fact the other engineer is leaving in two weeks. So, unless I do somthing ignorant like sexual harrasment or crap on the owner's desk, I am guaranteed a job no matter how poorly I do. Yay!
Last Saturday, I went out driving. I went to various cities in Illinois just to practice my driving. I have learned highway driving is much easier than street driving. Highway driving is just going in a straight like at 70 Mph while street driving requires much more attention to detail. My weaknesses include being able to make it into a parking spot on the first try and negotiating tight corners. My strengths include proper usage of turn signals and avoiding stupidity.
Last Sunday during Bible Class (the one before church), our preacher preached on Sexual Purity. I wanted to plug my ears and say "La..la...La... I can't hear you!!" Still, I have to accept the parts of Christianity I don't like. That being said, this doesn't change the fact that sometimes I can't stop thinking about vaginas.
I have decided I should always be prepared for things to go wrong. This being the case, I have purchased renter's insurance. For $196/year, I have my stuff covered. The only valuable items I have (retail value, not sentimental value) are my couch, computer, TV,and some of my softball equipment. |

After 4 months at the Transparent Container Engineering department, I'm glad to say I'm still employed. I do wear a lot of hats. Between all the projects I do, I wind up doing computer drafting, working with tools, studying how to reduce scrap, and setting up the machines. I absolutely love the fact that I'm not sitting on my ass all day. I also like the fact I wear a lot of hats so that if I need to develop my skill in one area, I can justify my continued employment by excelling in other areas.
I have been eating better. I limit myself to one can of regular soda a day and make the rest Diet Soda. My clothes feel looser. I've also dropped a couple pounds. My eventual goal is to lose my man boobs. To make matters worse, my man boobs are held up by my stomach. |

Ever since my employment at Transparent Container started back in mid-September, I have been very nervous and upset as to how I my job performance has been because I have received no feedback. I got my answer last Friday when I got my bonus check. |

[Oct. 24th, 2007|10:29 pm] |
Way back in the year of our Lord 1991, I began my first year of high school and had to choose a foreign language to study at MDIHS. We had the option of German, French, and Spanish.
I decided "no" to French right off that bat. I was thinking of German but decided against that even though I was considering it. I wound up taking 4 years of Spanish.
This has been one of my best decisions in a long time. At my new job I have become an unofficial interpreter. There are a ton of people who speak little or no English at my job. I even teach people a few words every week by making a sheet of words with English and Spanish translation on them. My Spanish is not all that great because
1) I mess up my verb conjugations 2) I can't understand when people speak to fast
I wish I had known a bit more German because I had this German friend in High School and I would bug him with my messed up attempts at German and constant reference to Lederhosen. |

I have successfully completed 12 work days at my new job. Given the sad state of my occupational situation since April, I am overly cautious about this job. They are teaching many new concepts and having me work with tools. So far, I think they are fully aware my manual dexterity needs some work.
What makes me nervous is that I have no idea what they think of my work so far. I try to read for subliminal signs but so far I don't see anything. What would make me feel great is for them to explicitly tell me how I'm doing. I told them once that if they weren't happy with something I'm doing, then tell me so that I can fix it.
So.... for time being I just plan on hoarding my checks into my savings until I feel comfortable there. Also, I figure either I'm going to fail in a blaze of glory or I'm going to succeed. |

Tuesday afternoon at about 1pm central standard time, I finally good a piece of business done that should have been done a long time ago. I recieved a valid drivers license. After about 2 months of driving lessons and one failed test, I got it on my second try. Technically, I should have failed because I nipped an orange cone on backing up. The tester said since it was only a nip, she would pass me anyways.
---------------------------------------------------
Ever feel like even though something good happens, there may still be impending doom? I feel that way. What I mean is that I finally found a job, but I still feel a storm cloud following me around. I guess when you've been through so much crap (occupationally speaking)that I've been through, one piece of good news doesn't make the cloud go away. I guess I'm assuming this job won't last. ---------------------------------------------------
Tommorrow, I leave for sunny San Diego. It will be nice to get away. I return Monday evening. |

| Pitchin' aint easy |
[Aug. 17th, 2007|10:17 am] |
This summer I am in a softball league. For only $25 I get a shirt (our uniform), 12 regular season games (plus at least one playoff game), and a party at the seasons end.
At first, I was going to be an outfielder. Then on the first day they needed someone who could actually hit the strike zone. It turns out I did that quite well. Therefore I get to pitch for the team. Pitching slow pitch softball is hard because the batter gets all the time in the world to react to the pitch.
That being said, I finally have some pictures of myself to show. Please note that the "non mug shot" pictures were taken with a camera that was set on a tripod and set to go off every few seconds, therefore the pictures may be a bit choppy.
If you want to see general info about the league: Softball website: http://www.moodysoftball.org
Player info and mug shot for yours truly: http://www.moodysoftball.org/stats.php?name=Sam%20Baturoni
Some shots from our last game. I am in frames 57-60, 63, 72-73, and 104-105: http://www.photoworks.com/photo-sharing/shareSignin.jsp?shareCode=A92D0E2C427&cp=ems_shr_alb_pml&cb=PW |

The last job I got fired from is still open on the internet.
http://tinyurl.com/2rurpb
I like to analyze stuff and see what this all means. The first thing I realize is that my job has been open for nearly a month.
Second, notice the pay scale of "$33,000 - $39,000" per year. Let this be a notice that an entry level mechanical engineer does not automaticalyy get paid big bucks upon leaving school.
Thirdly, notice the part that says " Applicant should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals." What an employer means by this is that they want to mold you in their own image. They figure your inexperience accomplishes this because you don't know any better.
Finally, they want someone with 1-3 year experience. I had less than one year of experience when I worked there. I do not know how exactly to interpret this. |

[Jun. 9th, 2007|10:22 pm] |
Finally after almost 2 months of unemployment, I have managed to find my way back into the working world. It is the same type of job as before. Anyways, to make a long story short I have compiled a list of how the old job and new job compare.
Commute (total): old job 3 hours..... new job 20 minutes Pay: old job "x" $/hour... new job "1.07 * x" $/ hour Size: Old job 13 people.... new job 3 people.
There is however a catch with the new job. Some travel to the suburbs is required, therefore I have to get my drivers license. I have had 2 lessons already. I had my license in Maine but driving there is SOOOOOOOOOO much diffrent than here, and I havn't had my license in about 10 years, thus the need for lessons. |

| Less Time at work means more time for travel. |
[May. 10th, 2007|12:16 am] |
As you (the readers) can see, I have foisted upon you all more pictures of my stadiums. This trip to Anaheim was last weekend. I was smart enough to pay for the majority of my vacation ahead of time, seeing as I'm not at my job anymore.
To make a long story short, my firing was the result of the owner saying he needed me to learn a certain number of tasks in a given time while I was only able to learn a few tasks in the given time. He never worked with me, thus he had to go with the managment said. Anyways, I told him that I couldn't fix a problem I never knew existed. I mean nobody ever said they were unhappy with my work. Granted, I could've asked but never did. Anyways, the whole upshot out of all this is that I have a lot of free time and a nice severance package.
During my last few weeks of unemployment, done my hobbies to a greater degree. I have spent more time than usual at the gym, I have had more time for travel, and I went back to the volunteer program I did before.
Remember, unemployment isn't all that bad if you can pay your bills. |
